Guided Tours: Route #1

Left Bank: Marjanishvili Quarter

The route starts on the left bank, at the Galaktioni Bridge (formerly Stalin Bridge) and leads through a densely built residential area from the 1970-1990s to the centre of the neighbourhood - Marjanishvili Square, which was renovated in 2011-2012. The origin of this quarter go back to the 19th century, when the German settlement was founded northwest of Tbilisi. On the square where a German church once stood, representative residential houses from the Stalinist era can be seen. About 20 main locations are visited. Afterwards we walk to the former German cemetery where the “Church of Reconciliation” was built. Without doubt, the urban concept of this district is one of the most unusual for Tbilisi, thanks to the orthogonal road network planned and built by German colonists.

Tour duration: up to 3 hours 30 minutes
